Your audio

When you drop a file on EarChord, the file is read by your own browser using the standard Web Audio decoder and the analysis runs in a Web Worker on your own processor. The audio is never sent to us, never sent to anyone else, and never written anywhere outside the tab. When you close or reload the page it is gone.

There is no upload endpoint in this product. It is not that we choose not to keep your recordings; there is no code path that would put them anywhere we could keep them. You can verify this in about ten seconds: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the network tab, and drop a file in. No request leaves your machine.

The Chrome extension works the same way. It reads audio the YouTube player is already producing in your tab, analyses it there, and makes no request to EarChord while it runs.

Your microphone

The guitar tuner is the one page that asks for your microphone, and it asks only when you press start. While it runs, each short frame of audio is measured for its pitch and then discarded. Nothing is recorded, nothing is buffered to disk and nothing is transmitted - the same network tab check applies here as it does to a dropped file.

Press stop, leave the page or switch to another tab and the microphone is released immediately, which you can confirm by watching your browser's recording indicator go out. No other page on this site requests microphone access at all.

The iPhone app

EarChord for iPhone is an ear training app, so it has no audio of yours to handle in the first place: every prompt it plays is synthesised on the device as it sounds. It never records, never listens through the microphone, and asks for no microphone permission.

The app makes no network request of its own. There is no analytics SDK in it, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter and no account to create. Your practice history - which levels you have reached, which intervals you get wrong - is written to storage on your own device and goes nowhere else.

EarChord Pro is a subscription handled entirely by Apple. Apple tells the app whether a subscription is active; we never see your name, your email address or any payment detail. To cancel, use Settings on your device - it is your Apple account, not an account with us.

Accounts

There are none, on any of the three. No sign-up, no email address, no password, no profile, no saved history and no daily counter attached to you. Nothing about you is stored because nothing about you is collected.

Cookies and local storage

The website sets no cookies at all. The Chrome extension uses the browser's own extension storage to remember your preferences, such as which instrument you want fingerings for. The iPhone app stores your progress and settings on the device. None of it is transmitted.

Analytics

This section is about the website only. The Chrome extension and the iPhone app report nothing at all, to us or to anyone else.

The site counts page views using Counterscale, a self-hosted, open-source analytics tool running on our own infrastructure at cs.earchord.com. It records the page that was viewed, the referring site, and coarse device and country information derived from the request. It sets no cookie, assigns you no persistent identifier, and cannot follow you to any other website.

It also counts a handful of named steps, recorded the same way as a page view: that an analysis started, finished or failed, that a tuning session started or microphone access was declined, and that someone copied or downloaded a result or followed a link to the App Store, the Chrome Web Store or a shop. Each one is the name of the step and nothing else.

We use it to see which pages people find useful and where they give up. It never sees your audio, your file names, the chords, key or tempo that were found, or anything the tuner heard, because none of that is reported to it.

Third parties

The site embeds no third-party fonts, trackers, widgets or social embeds. Typefaces are self-hosted and served from this domain, and the analytics beacon above is served from a subdomain of it.

Some instrument pages link to gear on Amazon. Those are ordinary links: nothing from Amazon loads on this site, and Amazon only learns anything if you click one. They are affiliate links, so a purchase after the click may earn EarChord a commission at no cost to you.

If advertising is added in future, this section will say so before it appears, and it will name whoever is serving it.

Server logs

The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes the requests needed to deliver a page - IP address, user agent, the URL requested - as any web host does. These are used for delivery and abuse prevention, not for profiling, and they never contain any of your audio.

Children

EarChord collects no personal data from anyone, of any age. There is nothing to consent to because there is nothing being gathered.

Changes to this page

If the way the site handles data ever changes, this page changes first, and the date below changes with it. The promise that your audio stays in your browser is the product itself, so it is not something we expect to revisit.
