Terms of use

Short, because the service is short: you drop a file, your own browser analyses it, and we never see it.

The service

EarChord is a free tool that estimates the chords, key and tempo of audio you supply. It runs in your browser. There is no account, no payment and no stored data, so there is nothing to subscribe to and nothing to cancel.

Accuracy

The results are estimates produced by signal processing, not a transcription by a musician. They are frequently right and sometimes wrong, particularly on dense or distorted material, and the chord vocabulary is limited to major and minor triads by design. Use them as a starting point and trust your ears over the timeline. EarChord is provided as is, with no warranty of accuracy or fitness for any particular purpose.

The audio you analyse

You are responsible for having the right to analyse whatever you put into the tool. Because the file never leaves your device we cannot see, store, copy or distribute it, and the tool does not download or reproduce anyone's recording. Analysing music you own or have legal access to, in order to learn to play it, is the use this is built for.

The Chrome extension

The extension reads audio a video is already playing in your own browser in order to display chords. It does not download video or audio, does not defeat any access control, and stores nothing beyond your own preferences. Use it in line with the terms of whatever site you are using it on.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, EarChord is not liable for any loss arising from use of the site or the extension, including reliance on a chord it got wrong. Since the service is free and holds none of your data, this is not the section anyone should be worrying about.

Availability

The site is provided without any uptime guarantee, and features may change or be withdrawn. Anything that would change how your data is handled goes on theprivacy page first.
